Professional Family Foster Care

About Us

North Homes, Inc. is licensed under authority of MN Department of Human Services Rule 4, as a specialized resource in the area of family foster care placement.  The therapeutic foster homes follow Department of Human Services' Rule 1 guidelines.  Our placements are determined by the needs of the individual. We place children and adolescents in foster homes which are appropriate for their needs and we license, train and supervise foster parents so they can effectively assist in promoting the child's treatment plan. We also offer group foster care with programming in Independent Living Skills.

Team Approach

Therapeutic Foster Care relies upon the teamwork concept. By working closely with the child's parents, foster parents, social worker, and mental health worker, a North Homes case manager develops and implements an effective treatment plan, which addresses both the immediate and future needs of the child.  This plan ensures that all concerned parties work toward common goals. And, because the treatment team is very active in developing the child's educational plan, it also ensures that there is a broad base of support in place for the child's academic, as well as social and personal development.

Our Foster Parents

We continue to recruit, train, and license foster families as the need arises.  We currently have approximately 80+ homes licensed in Minnesota, with 12 of these homes being Native American.  Because of the intensive nature of foster parenting in a therapeutic setting, our parents complete 18 hours of training prior to licensing and attend 30 hours of continuing education each year subsequent to licensure.

Intensive Reunification Process

In coordination with the Professional Family Foster Care Case Manager, a mental health practitioner begins working with the child in care, natural family, and foster family, approximately three months before reunification is expected to take place.  These services are provided either under Therapeutic Support to Foster Care, or within the In-Home Family Services Program
