residential treatment cottage

The Cottage is a therapeutic living environment for adolescents, ages 12-18, who are diagnosed with a Serious Emotional Disability (SED). Mental illness is a disease that can occur for a number of reasons, including genetics, chemical imbalance and as a result of a traumatic experience. We are here to provide competent, holistic care in the least restrictive setting possible. The program is strength based, building individualized goals with a young person and their family, to support change and healing that will help create a reconnection and be successful in their home, community and school as soon as they are ready.

Licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the Cottage provides a caring, safe and healthy living environment. Staffed by mental health practitioners and professionals 24 hours a day, youth receive treatment, supervision and support right when they need it most.

Discharge planning begins at admission and is linked to a youth's treatment plan goals. Each plan, while individualized, consists of four levels of achievement. Each week, the treatment team reviews the goals and levels with a youth to assess growth and provide support. As levels are completed, increased privileges are earned.

Family visits and phone calls are encouraged. Family therapy and home visits are integral components to treatment and to best care practices. The Cottage also has family days to allow a connection to the program through personal experience of the groups and support.
