North Homes, Inc. is licensed under authority of Minnesota Department of Human Services Rule 5, and Minnesota Department of Corrections.
I.T.A.S.K.I.N. Juvenile Center (IJC) consists of a 35-bed treatment facility serving male and female youths between the ages of 10 - 17 years. Children under 10 years of age are accepted in the facility, if significant behavioral problems are a concern. Emergency foster care is an available resource for these children.
The Residential Treatment
Program focuses on Skill Building/Behavior Modification Programming teaching
daily living skills through a structured Level System. Criteria for advancing
through the Level System is based on developing and exhibiting pro-social
values and behaviors identified in the youth's individual treatment plan.
Residents are able to complete the program in three to six months. Monthly progress reports and quarterly staffings keep referral agents up-to-date on documented treatment, as well as coordination of care by the Residential Treatment Coordinator.
Residents participate in the daily-programming components:
Full-Day School Programming
Life Skills Development
Psycho-Educational Groups
Discharge Recommendations and Planning
Medication Education
Recreational Programming
Native American Cultural Programming
The daily routine is consistent within all programming, offering residents: nutritional meals and snacks, schooling, homework/study and journaling time, chores, recreation, group activities, therapy/counseling, and structured free time. Daily activities start around 7:00 a.m., and residents are required to be in bed by 9:00 p.m. (may be earlier if child is under 12).
Home visits are also an integral part of transitioning back to the community. Eligibility for visits will be determined by parents or guardians, referring worker, and treatment team. Transportation is also available on request from the referring agent.
Upon completion of our programs, follow-up continuum of care resources, such as family foster care, respite care, in-home/family reunification services, truancy prevention, and psychological services are available upon referral.
Referrals are accepted from
Social Services, Corrections, and Law Enforcement. The shelter program provides
a safe and structured short-term placement for 30 days or less.
Health screenings are provided by a registered nurse within 24 hours of admission. Each child is assigned a treatment coordinator and primary counselor. Stabilization planning is done immediately at intake to address any immediate issues, crisis, and discharge planning.
The 35-Day Evaluation Program provides 24-hour behavior observation and documentation by trained staff with the clinical supervision by an on-site, licensed psychologist.
A comprehensive assessment, which identifies
child and family issues and historical information, is conducted. The assessment
team then recommends on-going services that will best meet the present and
future needs of the child and family. The IJC evaluation program consists of
components, which are integrated to develop a final evaluation report.
