Shelter Program
The ITASKIN Center Shelter Program provides a safe and structured short term placement setting for males and females 12 - 18 years of age. Children under 12 years of age are accepted in the facility for short term crisis intervention.
The Shelter consists of a 28 bed, unlocked facility. Each child placed in the shelter is assisted by a case manager. Health screenings with a registered nurse take place within 24-hours of admission.
Planning for stabilization starts at admission to address immediate concerns and to identify a plan for the child or adolescent at discharge.
Placements are accepted for the following reasons:
- Neglect/Abuse
- Awaiting long-term placement
- Status Offense
- Respite care/time out
- Minor Delinquent Offenses
Referrals are accepted from Social Services, Corrections and Law Enforcement.
The Shelter program provides a safe and structured short-term placement for 30 days or less.
All residents participate in the daily programming components:
- Full-day school programming
- Life skill development
- Psycho-educational groups
- Discharge recommendations and planning
- Medication education (if warranted)
- Recreational programming
- Cultural programming
